Artisan Affiliated is an AI-native R&D firm. We identify the problem keeping you up at night, design the system that solves it, and either hand it to you or run it for you — your choice. We are not a software vendor and not a traditional consultancy. We are the team you hire when the problem doesn't fit either category.
HOW WE WORK
Most R&D dies in indecision. We separate the part that kills ideas fast from the part that ships them — and place a human checkpoint at every decision that matters.
PHASE ONE
Orient, comb, focus, simulate, decide. Agents map the problem space at a velocity no human team can match. Humans curate, prune, and kill what won't ship. Inception ends with a one-page thesis or it doesn't end at all.
PHASE TWO
Agents move continuously. Humans sit at the toll booths — the decisions that matter — pricing and approving the work that ships. Different work classes get different scrutiny. The bottleneck isn't attention; it's judgment, placed where it counts.
THE OPERATING LAYER
Thalamus is the operating layer that runs underneath every Artisan Affiliated engagement. It is how we move fast without losing the thread.

A command center where the firm directs the system from. We watch agents work, intervene when judgment is needed, and price the decisions that matter. Speed comes from the agents; direction comes from us.
Most AI products optimize for autonomy. We optimize for judgment-per-dollar. The bottleneck isn't how fast the machine moves — it's how well the human directs it. Thalamus is built around that asymmetry.

I've spent my life building systems — restaurants, operations, now software. The food world taught me that great operations come from the system behind them, not the surface. When the tools to build the systems I'd been imagining finally caught up, I went home and locked myself away for months to learn them: code, math, AI architecture, financial modeling.
Artisan Affiliated came out of that period. We built Thalamus to run our own firm. Soon we'll sell it so you can run yours.

Alex Boeckx leads research, strategy, and operations at Artisan Affiliated, bringing an MBA from Rider University and frontline experience as a Commercial Lines Underwriter, he reads risk for a living. A former Division I swimmer and leader on Rider’s 11x MAAC Championship Men’s Swimming and Diving team, he brings the same discipline, teamwork, and competitive edge to building systems, solving complex problems, and supporting the people around him.
At Artisan Affiliated he runs operations. The firm works because he makes it work.
